Whilst the skinny jeans look is trendy nowadays, building strong leg muscles should be just as important to your weight training as training any other body part. Not only does it dramatically improve speed, power and athletic performance, training your legs engages a lot of core muscles which will help when training other parts of the body.

Using machines such as the leg press and leg extension help to produce a huge amount of power from the quadriceps (front part of upper leg). Whereas calf raises and hamstring curls focus on building the stabilising muscles to help prevent injury whilst running.
